Replacing paper a plus for patient safety

The days of paper charts are numbered, with the introduction of the Patientrack e-observation system to Wairau Hospital’s Inpatient ward this week.

E-observation is the use of a computer (typically an iPad) to record patient vital signs and other clinical data at the bedside.

Murchison Health Centre to join Nelson Bays Primary Health

Murchison Health Centre is joining Nelson Bays Primary Health, the primary health organisation (PHO) that organises and delivers primary and community health services across the Nelson and Tasman district.

Murchison Health Centre patients will be asked to sign a new enrolment form and, under the new arrangement, some may notice beneficial changes such as reduced fees and easier access to appointments.

A simple step towards greater patient safety

Hospital clinicians and primary care GPs now have one-click access to some of their patients’ mental health or addictions records, replacing the ‘break the glass’ system where records had to be requested.

Records from 2016 are now available via the Health Connect South and HealthOne systems, with the same confidentiality protections and auditing steps in place.
